The Day I Understood

More than once, I've caught myself dreaming of escaping everything β€” taking a few days, disconnecting, and letting my mind rest.

And most of the time, it just doesn't happen:
- Who watches the kids?
- Where does the money come from?
- Who would even go with me?
- And how do you leave behind everything waiting for you at work and at home?

So the vacation gets postponed, but the belief stays: if only I had a vacation β€” I'd be calmer, nicer, more creative, work better, be a better parent. And without a vacation, how can we expect ourselves to be like that?

One day I landed exactly there. I was sure I had an urge to get away. I told my husband how tired I was, and how much I needed quiet.

He looked at me and said: "So what's stopping you? Go wherever you want."

I paused for a moment and asked myself, honestly:
where would I want to go?
- Nowhere.
Who would I want to be with?
- My kids and my husband.
What would I eat?
- Only healthy things.
What would I do there?
- Go for a run, sleep as much as I wanted, watch the kids laugh, spend time in nature, write, and take care of myself.

I realized that everything I was longing for I already had, right here, in my routine.

So I slowed down my pace, and decided to give myself small, magical moments of a daily "vacation" that I organize and initiate myself.

On this vacation:
- when I'm tired - I stop and rest.
- When I need quiet - I go quiet and observe.
- When I need air - I step outside, into nature.

Everything I was longing for I already had, right here.

Slowly, my routine turned into one continuous vacation. And since then I don't look for ways to escape anywhere, because I discovered that I'm actually best off right here, at home.

Wishing your routine feels like a vacation,

Vacation is a way of life, not necessarily a place you travel to.
